Apple Dumplings
Pie Dough:
(makes 2 single crust pies)
2 1/2 cups flour
1 cup crisco (skimpy)
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon sugar
Mix until crumbley with hand. Add 6 Tablespoons water (depending upon the weather). Mix with pie dough. Roll out dough, no more then necessary.
Apple Dumpling Syrup:
2 cups sugar
2 cups water
1/4 cup butter
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Cook together on top of stove.
Make regular pie dough above. Peel and core apples. Wrap apples in pie dough. I usually put a little brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter on each apple and in the core. Close dough. Pour apple dumpling syrup over all the apples. bake.
Bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes
*I'm not sure I've ever made this recipe. Mom gave it to me years ago and she wrote it out for me so the "I" is from her.
